Lorna Walker, senior solicitor and GLC legal partner ‘We are really proud to be launching our women’s rights project, Govan Law Centre are acutely aware that often women’s experience of homelessness is different from men. Less women rough sleep but often sofa surf and can be exploited. We meet women who stay in inhabitable accommodation or abusive relationships to avoid sleeping rough or form unhealthy relationships for protection. Mothers are concerned for the wellbeing of their children, often have a fear of being placed in temporary accommodation and losing their support networks, or access to medical treatment and being close to their children’s school. This project aims to offer tailored support to vulnerable women. We aim to empower women and support them to know and exercise their rights so they have a home, which is also their safe haven. Everything starts with a healthy, safe home life and everyone deserves this.’

Candy Walker, legal service manager said: ‘Our Education Law Unit is delighted that increased funding has been secured from Scottish Government for our Let’s Talk ASN Scotland project. We have now welcomed Chloe Minto, Solicitor and Lynda Nouar, Trainee Solicitor to the team. The addition of a trainee solicitor is very positive as it attracts a young solicitor into this specialised legal field. This service provides support to anyone with Additional Support Needs of school age to access their rights to a fulfilling and suitable education.’
