Bucksburn Swimming Pool to be re-opened by Aberdeen City Council and Sport Aberdeen

Aberdeen City Council has agreed to re-open Bucksburn Swimming Pool following a meeting of the full council on 14 December 2023.

The U-turn took place after a fresh public consultation on the closure of the pool and six public libraries took place, following legal negotiations in four petitions for judicial review in the Court of Session.

The four petitioners – including two challenging the closure of the swimming pool – were represented in the Court of Session by solicitor advocate, Mike Dailly, and solicitor Charis Brooks of Govan Law Centre with Laura McDonagh, Partner of Drummond Miller LLP, as Edinburgh agents.

Substantive hearings were due to be heard at the Court of Session in Edinburgh in Autumn 2023, but to stop the actions, Aberdeen City Council offered to run a full formal consultation on the closures with detailed equality impact assessments.

Unfortunately, the council endorsed its original decision to close its six public libraries in Cornhill, Cults, Ferryhill, Garthdee (Kaimhill), Northfield, and Woodside.
