Over 150 delegates from the third sector, local government and the statutory sector attended the inaugural GAIN Cost of Living Crisis conference at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on Thursday, 15 June 2023.
The challenges facing financially vulnerable people in Glasgow and Scotland were examined along with the operational challenges for free advice services from GAIN’s network of 16 law centres, CABx and money advice and welfare rights agencies.
Practical workshops for practitioners included energy costs, Scottish disability and other devolved benefits, a cash-first approach to people in crisis, foodbanks, child poverty and problems with social security and inflation.
Govan Law Centre’s Principal Solicitor and Solicitor Advocate provided two workshops on housing debt and other priority debts with strategies to prevent homelessness and financial hardship. The slide deck presentation for this workshop is available below in PDF.
