The Big Issue has named Govan Law Centre (GLC) as one of their top 100 Changemakers in the UK – the Thinkers, Creators and Agitators Changing the World in 2020. The Big Issues says: “GLC’s reputation in delivering high quality innovative services to the most disadvantaged people in their communities continues to be an inspiration to others even as they enter their 25th year. The advice they give on housing, homelessness, welfare rights and debt aid is priceless to people who otherwise would be stranded. Others on the list include Newcastle United Football Club supporting food banks in Newcastle, Bread and Roses, Brighton and Hove Housing Coalition, Freedom Bakery and Ross Kemp”.
Mike Dailly, GLC solicitor advocate, said: “It’s humbling to be recognised by an institution like the Big Issue and to be in the company of individuals and organisations that are doing so much to make the world a better place. Govan Law Centre believes its strength comes from the fact we have never forgotten why we are here. The poorest and most vulnerable people in our community deserve the best professional services we can offer. We need to help everyone we can, and use their experience to campaign for better laws and services to improve lives. We will always do out best to meet the needs of the people we serve. Thanks again to the Big Issue for recognising the work we do.”
