Govan Law Centre (GLC) are launching a pilot Family Right Project. It has become increasingly apparent following the success of our Women’s Rights Project that many vulnerable families struggle to access adequate support, advice and legal representation.
GLC’s pilot project will be operated with input from solicitors and caseworkers from our Prevention of Homeless Team and Education Law Unit.
Many of our wonderful partner organisations are unable to allow children into their facilities due to health and safety reasons and therefore families with young children are often left in homeless hotels without access to cooking facilities and separate living areas.
GLC has now partnered with Rise and Shine, Early Years Scotland and other like-minded organisations who support many families in Glasgow facing homelessness or stuck in temporary accommodation for months sometimes years. They offer a safe environment for children to play and learn. Parents also get a wide range of support.
Now with our support we aim to ensure that these families can access free and expert legal support regarding their homeless and housing situation and our Education Law Unit will endeavour to ensure children with additional support needs can access education that meet their needs.
