Up and Coming Solicitor Award for Charis Brooks at the Law Awards of Scotland

The 2025 Herald Law Awards of Scotland took place at the Raddison Blu Hotel in Glasgow on Friday, 7 November 2025. Among the winners from Scotland’s legal profession was Govan Law Centre’s Charis Brooks. Charis is a Solicitor with our Women’s Rights Project and Prevention of Homelessness Services and also undertakes public interest strategic litigation. On receiving the prestigious award Charis said:

I am absolutely delighted to receive the Up and Coming Solicitor Award at the Herald Law Awards of Scotland 2025. The opportunities at Govan Law Centre early in my career have been completely invaluable. Working alongside our Solicitor Advocate, Mike Dailly, in instructing critical judicial review cases, which have escalated to the highest courts in the UK, has offered insights and experience which are incomparable.

Experience of UKSC is incredible and aspirational for lawyers at any stage of their career so to have this experience and exposure at 3 years post qualified after such a varied, exciting and often demanding traineeship is invaluable. It has been a privilege to work with such a talented team of individuals who have allowed me to flourish as a solicitor and provided that context for success.
