Job Opportunities to help us respond to the COVID19 crisis

Govan Law Centre have two exciting job opportunities for an experienced employment law solicitor; and debt and money adviser to work within our new and innovative city-wide CVD-19 Financial & Litigation Impact Project

You will work closely within our GLC team of solicitors, money advisers, welfare rights and vulnerable case workers to help protect some of the most vulnerable people in our city as the COVID 19 lockdown protections are lifted

You will provide advice, assistance and representation, to help to secure employment rights and protect jobs and incomes. Both contracts are initially for 6 months, and depending on further funding applications we will extend these contracts.

Both posts funded by Foundation Scotland Response Fund

SOLICITOR POST

JOB DESCRIPTION
Govan Law Centre is looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated solicitor to assist the legal team working closely with GLC Prevention of Homelessness Services and Financial Inclusion Team.

The successful candidate will be experienced in employment law, court work and relevant civil law. Initially working from home and toward safe office based and outreach work: GLC are redesigning outreach services with our partners to ensure it is safe for service users, staff and others and comply with Covid-19 public health advice.

The position is in our new CVD-19 Financial & Litigation Impact Project and will include provision of legal advice and representation for clients in terms of Employment, Scottish and UK Government CVD-19 measures also in terms of litigation and demand for legal advice and casework with, evictions, redundancies and unemployment, homeowner and debtor’s forbearance ending, local authority debt recovery for council tax and sequestration reinstated, and the phasing out of government support schemes for workers.

The successful candidate MUST :

  1. Hold a degree in Scots Law
  2. A diploma in legal practice
  3. A Law Society of Scotland practising certificate
  4. Have good research and analytical skills
  5. Ability to work well with minimum supervision

It would be desirable if the candidate had

  1. Knowledge and experience of issues relating to private Rented Sector Tenancies
  2. Knowledge and experience of issues relating to social welfare law
  3. Experience in appearing in court or tribunal settings
  4. Experience in dealing with vulnerable clients
  5. Experience in handling a large and varied workload
  6. Experience in working within a team setting

DEBT AND MONEY ADVISER

CVD-19 Financial & Litigation Impact Project.

34 Hours per week, Glasgow
£26,500 per annum,
6 month contract further term dependent on funding – continued funding being applied for

An exciting position within our new and innovative city-wide CVD-19 Financial & Litigation Impact Project

As Debt and Money Adviser you will work closely with Govan Law Centre Legal team and Prevention of Homelessness Services including our Financial Inclusion Team, providing debt and money advice services in terms of the impact of Scottish and UK Government CVD-19 measures and phasing out of lockdown. Experience working with and providing services to vulnerable individuals and groups is essential.

Initially working remotely from home with a phased return to safe office based and outreach work GLC are redesigning outreach services with our partners to ensure it is safe for service users, staff and others and comply with Covid-19 public health advice.

Govan Law Centre are experiencing significantly increased casework demand: It is expected that there will be a dramatic spike in litigation and demand for legal, advice and casework later this autumn with an avalanche of evictions, redundancies and unemployment, homeowner and debtor’s forbearance ending, local authority debt recovery for council tax and sequestration reinstated, and the phasing out of government support schemes for workers.
