GOVAN LAW CENTRE seeks a solicitor to join our award-winning legal team in Glasgow. A competitive salary based upon experience is offered.

Govan Law Centre is seeking a qualified solicitor with civil court experience and a passion for social justice. This post may also suit a newly qualified solicitor or 2nd year trainee solicitor.

Experience in the legal fields of housing, homelessness, and public law would be anadvantage.

This is a full-time position; however, job sharing will be considered. (If applying for job share, please indicate your preferred working hours.)

The position will be based in our Govan office and will include provision of a variety of legal advice and representation for clients in terms of mainly housing, mortgage arrears and homelessness.

It will also involve providing legal representation at court, tribunals and at outreach locations. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to work with our respected solicitor advocate and be involved in Court of Session litigation.

The successful candidate(s) MUST:

1. Hold a degree in Scots law

2. A diploma in legal practice

3. An unrestricted Law Society of Scotland practising certificate

4. Have good research and analytical skills

5. Ability to work well under supervision

6. Work well within an experienced legal team

It would be desirable if the candidates had:

1. Knowledge and experience of issues relating to social welfare law

2. Experience in appearing in court or tribunal settings

3. Experience in dealing with vulnerable clients

4. Experience in handling a large and varied workload
