End Rough Sleeping

Govan Law Centre are pleased to have been appointed onto the Scottish Government’s Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Group

The Scottish government has set a clear objective to eradicate rough sleeping in Scotland and transform the use of temporary accommodation. The Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Group will make recommendations on how Scottish Government Ministers should do this

Scottish Government has established, a Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Group “to lead change in this area and identify responses on the actions, services and legislative framework required to end rough sleeping and transform the use of temporary accommodation. The Action Group’s work will be informed by the views of those with direct personal experience of homelessness”

They will also advise Ministers on how to ensure the recommendations are successfully implemented to secure rapid change that is needed to end rough sleeping in Scotland

First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon said its her “mission to tackle the deep-seated and intractable challenges of homelessness, rough sleeping and drug use. While these problems are not unique to Scotland and affect a minority of our population, they blight too many lives and tarnish the reputation of our nation. With cuts from Westminster austerity now exacerbating these problems, we will redouble our own efforts to tackle them.”

We look forward to working with the group to meet these aims.
